Just a few miles along the road is Middleham, another of Yorkshire’s lovely villages. Famous for it’s castle (once the home of Richard III) it is also the home to several race-horse trainers and you can see and watch the horses go through the village and up to the gallops every day. There is also a lovely selection of pubs, a tea room and village store. A few miles up the road from Middleham is The Forbidden Corner a wonderful family attraction with The Saddle Room restaurant serving delicious food and wine.

Further up the dale from Middleham is the market town of Leyburn with traditional shops, pubs and cafes all gathered around a market square. There is also Tennants in Leyburn, an auction house with exhibitions, bistro and events, is definitely worth a trip to. Richmond, another historic town, is also within easy reach. Other local attractions are Aysgarth Falls, Bolton Castle, Swinton Castle and Spa. There are wonderful walks and cycle rides surrounding East Witton which is on the Tour de Yorkshire route.
