What the blazes… at Bolton Abbey
Bolton Abbey, Wharfedale; 2 Nov
Oohs and aahs are guaranteed at Bolton Abbey, which is renowned for its Guy Fawkes jamboree. Set on the banks of the River Wharfe, flames from the massive bonfire light up the stark ruins of the 12th century monastery and the fireworks are a masterclass in pyrotechnics. Wrap up warm as you’ll want to spend hours here, what with all the mulled wine, marshmallows, and additional entertainment in the form of jugglers, fire-eaters and fairground rides. Magical flares at Sledmere House
Sledmere House, Driffield; 26 Oct
Now in its fourth year, the fireworks display at Sledmere House is so fancy it goes by the name of pyromuscial – that’s fireworks set to music to you and me. Choreographed by a local company, 2019’s extravaganza promises ‘magic in the air’. There’s also a funfair, music from York-based band The Mix, food from the Sledmere estate including organic burgers and rare pork breed hot dogs, and drink from Half Moon Brewery, which specialises in local ales and cider. Scorching night out in Bedale
Bedale Bonfire and Fireworks Display, Bedale Park; 2 Nov
Known to throw one of the best bonfire bashes in Yorkshire, Bedale’s pyrotechnics are staged in front of Bedale Hall and light up its magnificent Palladian façade in a riot of sparkle and colour. The event is free, but you will have to shell out for a glo-stick should you want additional luminescence. (bedale-tc.gov.uk)
