Eastfield Lodge, Leyburn, Yorkshire Dales

The house was built originally as part of the Bolton Estate and is conveniently only 12 miles from the A1. Its close proximity to the thriving town of Leyburn has been sited as a particular asset for families and groups staying on self catered and hosted stays. The market town has good facilities with a post office, two supermarkets, independents shops, tearooms galore, three churches, four pubs, a fish and chip shop, a bistro, three restaurants and a weekly market.

As well as it’s stunning countryside, North Yorkshire has a thriving arts and entertainment scene throughout the year including theatre, festivals and music. Beyond the house lies spectacular countryside with rolling hills, winding rivers, dramatic waterfalls and deep valleys. Locally there’s a wealth of impressive architecture and rural history, vibrant cities, remarkable geological features and individual crafts and retailers in the charming rural villages.  All of this makes it ideal for adventurous cyclists, enthusiastic walkers, keen historians, casual sightseers, excited families and those in need of some individual retail therapy or craving irresistible cuisine.

The Lodge has 8 large individual bedrooms, all ensuite and can be booked for up to 16 people. The booking system will only allow you to book a maximum of 16 guests, but camp beds or divan beds (ideal for children) can be added to the booking.  Additional people can be added after making your booking. Leyburn town centre is a 5 minute walk to the house with traditional shops, pubs and cafes all gathered around a market square. There is also Tennants in Leyburn, a big auction house which is definitely worth a trip to. Richmond, another historic town, is also within easy reach. Other local attractions are Aysgarth Falls, Bolton Castle, Swinton Castle and Spa. There are wonderful walks and cycle rides surrounding East Witton which is on the Tour de Yorkshire route.

Further down the dale is Middleham, another of Yorkshire’s lovely villages. Famous for it’s Castle (once the home of Richard III) it is also the home to several race horse trainers and you can watch the horses go through the village and up to the gallops every day. There is also a lovely selection of pubs, a tea room and village store. A few miles up the road from Middleham is The Forbidden Corner a wonderful family attraction with The Saddle Room restaurant serving delicious food and wine.

Recently refurbished, an absolutely beautiful place to stay while retaining a welcoming, homely feel. We were a family group of 12 adults and 5 children. There was ample space to be together or apart and the soundproofing in the bedrooms was 100%, not a baby’s cry was heard in the night. We were self catering and enjoyed using the palatial, well equipped kitchen.
The views from the house are stunning and there are a huge range of activities available.
