Aysgarth Falls have attracted visitors for over 200 years, famously the Artists Ruskin, Turner and Wordsworth all visited and enthused about the ‘falls’ outstanding beauty. In the 19th century Aysgarth was a staging post and many a traveller would make their way down to view the falls from the bridge. Today, many will recognise the Upper Falls from the film Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves. In the nearby Freeholders’ Wood, where the ancient art of coppicing is still carried out and visitors will find hazel, ash and wild cherry, among others.
The woodland is carpeted with wildflowers in spring and is home to over 120 species. Aysgarth makes an excellent holiday location for walkers, offering a great base from which to explore both Wensleydale and Swaledale, with beauty spots in the area including Aysgarth Falls, Semerwater, castles at both Bolton and Middleham and of course, Hardraw Force – England’s highest single drop waterfall at 99ft! There are also lots of interesting market towns and villages to visit, including Hawes, Leyburn and Bainbridge, to name but a few.
Hawes 9 miles; Castle Bolton 4 miles; Leyburn 7 miles.
Lovely stay here, and so close to the waterfall which was a bonus! Very quiet location which was relaxing. Would definitely recommend.
The cottage was absolutely lovely, really cosy and just a nice place to stay in. Literally the other side of the road to the waterfalls.. couldn’t get any closer if they tried! We thoroughly loved our stay there
Lovely place to spend a few days! Right opposite the falls so its location is lovely. Would recommend driving to Barnards castle and/or raby castle as the drive itself through the dales is breathtaking! We ate at the wheatchief inn and would fully recommend! Amazing food.
Very nice house, cozy living room, especially the large couch, lots of lamps, nice light, kitchen very well equipped -Great environment for hiking in nature with dogs – you can walk forever from pasture to pasture. sheep, cows, rabbits, pheasants and other animals, watch Aysgarth Falls right outside the door. Visit Wensleydale Creamery a must!
Really enjoyed our stay at bumblebee cottage, area was lovely to just relax and unwind
Lovely cottage in a beautiful location with plenty of good walks from the doorstep. Property was spotlessly clean and had everything we needed and could wish for. Electric wall heaters very efficient and quickly warmed up the property during what was a cold June break. Parking immediately outside was very useful for loading and unloading.
Lovely cottage in great location for stunning walks
Lovely place directly near the Aysgarth Falls. We had a great stay.
